Watch chocolatier Andrew Marinaro from Kilwin’s, 743 Fifth Ave. S., Naples, 261-9898, demonstrate how to make coconut haystacks, s’mores, almond bark and chocolate dipped strawberries at naplesnews.com/cookit.

This doesn’t involve a recipe — you can use your favorite candy chocolate — but it does involve a smart technique for dipping.

Joe and Sue Marinaro opened Kilwin’s, a chocolate and ice cream store, in 2003 and have been enticing the shoppers of Fifth Avenue South in Naples with their delectable homemade fudge, chocolates, caramels, caramel corn and ice cream ever since. When they are cooking, you just have to follow your nose to satisfy your sweet tooth. The store offers all kinds of chocolate and candy gifts with every holiday showcased to make gift-giving easy.

Marinaro says it is a fun place to work with constant interaction with the customers and the ease of selling pure enjoyment.

The Marinaro children, Jaime, Katy and Andrew, have all worked in the store while they were in school. Andrew Marinaro is still an important member of the chocolate team and has created his own treats, with chocolate-caramel s’mores his latest invention. If it can be covered in chocolate, he will do it, he says. The fudge is an art that has taken him four years to get exactly right, he says. There are

12 different flavors of fudge, and at least two flavors are made every day.

The store has become a destination for tourists and residents, and even on cold days people enjoy an ice cream cone. Toasted coconut is the most popular ice cream flavor.

The Marinaros donate ice cream to St. Matthew’s House every month for its birthday parties and to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office “Do Right Thing” program. They also sent fudge to the 25th Infantry Division in Iraq and donate candy for Christmas stockings for the American Red Cross.

Kilwin’s is open from

11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Walk in and you will automatically become a sweeter person.
