The simple answer to staying ahead of the pack — keep winning.

That’s why Cocomno’s and Joey’s Pizza lead the City Men’s Softball League.

Joey’s not only won, it beat the team chasing them, DaVinci’s.

Here are the games in order of play.

Eli’s Contacting, 22, Islander Pool, 14

Eli’s bats came alive with three hits each from Alex Parker, Todd Swanders and Rob Dean. Even better, they each hammered home runs in the high-scoring game.

Justin Bord, Joey Irigoyen and Eddy Obrenski each had home runs in the loss for Islander.

Cocomo’s, 19, Marco Island Brewery, 17

Although a close game, Cocomo’s, behind Curt Wittoff’s four hits, including a home run, wins its eighth game and continues to lead the league. Patrick Baldwin added three hits and Mike Watkins and Kevin Hennings each home runs for Cocomo’s. The Brew was led by Dusty McCauley and Scott Finch with three hits each and a home run by Luke Vergo.

Nacho Mama’s, 22, Sand Bar, 21

Nacho Mama’s bats came alive behind Steve Haidy’s three hits and a home run, along with three hits each by Chris Broxson and Anthony Palermo as Nacho’s upset Sand Bar and won its second game of the season. Sand Bar was led by JP Nachef and Garron Skender with four hits each and Rob Ashe and Jason Bening with three hits each, including home runs.

Joeys, 14, DaVinci’s, 12

In the battle for second place, Davinci’s jumped out on Joeys, taking an early 9 -0 lead, but a 10-run fourth put Joey’s in the lead. DaVinci’s rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Joey’s answered in the bottom of the sixth for the win.

Team standings: Cocomo’s, 8-1, Joey’s, 8-2, DaVinci’s, 6-3-1, Sand Bar, 5-5, Marco Island Brewery, 3-6-1, Islander Pool, 3-7, Eli’s Contracting, 3-6 and Nacho Mama’s, 2-8.

Stop by Winterberry Park on Thursday nights for some great Softball.
