The Island Country Club tennis tournament season is in full swing.

The first two events were the Women’s Open Level Member/Guest Doubles and the Men’s B Member/Guest Doubles.

The ladies event had 11 teams competing in a round robin format and the champions after three hours of play were Louise Jean and Barbara Ross, who bested Judy Kenny and Chris Sullivan in the main draw final. The consolation draw was won by Suzanne Schulte and Barbara Caliendo, over Diana Borgo and Judy Dyer.

The Men’s B (3.5 NTRP) level Member/Guest had nine teams vying for the title and was won by Corky Trebilcock and Boris Pavinchevich, taking out Jeff Fisher and Louis Benito, after both teams qualified for the final during three hours of round robin play. The consolation event for the men was taken by John Wrucke and Bart Thompson, edging Mike Kanan and Bernie Bezos.

Next up at the Island Club is the Men’s A level (4.0 and above NTRP) Member/Guest Doubles on Feb. 22, followed by the Women’s Member/Member Doubles Club Championship on Feb. 25.

The Second Annual Island Club Open Mixed Doubles Championship is slated for March 18-20 and is open to the public.

Three levels of play will be offered, all based on NTRP ratings. Levels include B, level NTRP 3.5 and below, A level NTRP 4.0 and Open Level, for players rated 4.5 and above. Teams must compete at the level of the highest rated player.

The draws for this tournament are limited and are on a first-registered-first-in basis, so call early to insure your place in this very popular event. For more details, or to register, call the tennis pro shop at 394-4464.
