North Naples home suffers smoke damage cause by aquarium fire

Video from NBC-2

— A home in North Naples sustained severe smoke damage after the motor of an aquarium caught on fire late Monday afternoon.

A 911 call was received at 3:44 p.m. reporting heavy smoke coming from 370 Burning Tree Drive, off of Goodlette-Frank Road, said North Naples Public Information Officer Jerry Sanford.

The owner came home earlier in the afternoon to find dark heavy smoke pouring out, prompting him to call 911.

"They're lucky they got home when they did," Sanford said. "This could've been a lot worse."

Twenty North Naples Firefighters were on the scene to help extinguish the fire. By 4:10 p.m., firefighters had the fire under control and pulled the large charred aquarium motor out onto the back porch.

"There's a lot of smoke damage throughout the whole house," Sanford said.
