Roger Lalonde Staff Susie Kluger and Doug Browne, Hideaway Beach Club tennis professional, are ready to welcome competitors to the Hideaway Beach Club Open Tennis Tournament, March 4-6. Kluger, club tennis committee chairperson, is inviting the public to join Hideaway Beach Club competitors.
Hideaway Beach Club has two events coming up that should be of great interest to the public.
First is former tennis star Cliff Richey speaking at a luncheon at the Hideaway Beach Clubhouse at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Second is the Hideaway Beach Open Tennis Tournament, on March 4-6.
Richey will talk about his tennis life, but more about his book topic, “Acing Depression, a tennis champions toughest match.”
“Excellent can be the enemy of good,” he said. He chased excellence in his professional tennis career. Admittedly a hot-headed bad boy from Texas, Richey will give a glimpse of his sometimes colorful tennis life and will tell of his inability to cope with defeats and his search for excellence that brought on depression that he battled constantly.
The public can attend the free luncheon, but need to call Hideaway Beach tennis professional Doug Browne, 642-2845, to make a reservation.
The tennis tourney features men and women’s doubles competition at 3.0 and 3.5-rated levels. Players must be at least 30 years old. Each team will play at least two matches. Entry fee is $25.
An entry form is available at www.hideawaybeachclub.org, with non-members clicking on the visitor’s link for access. For more information call Browne at 642-2845.
