Free sunsets: Florida community drops beach parking fee after 5 p.m.

HUDSON, Fla. (AP) — Beachgoers won't have to pay to watch the sunset in Pasco County.

County commissioners on Tuesday formally adopted new parking fees for county parks. But they agreed not to charge for parking at Hudson Beach after 5 p.m.

Beachfront restaurant and business owners had complained about a drop in business since November, when the county began collecting a $2 parking fee.

Commissioners adopted the fees to help make up for a $613,000 budget shortfall in the parks department.

Starting March 4, visitors will be ticketed if they don't pay the parking fee at 11 parks. A first offense will cost $15.

Annual parking passes are available for $60.
