Teaches: First grade at Corkscrew Elementary School in Golden Gate Estates

What does the Golden Apple mean to you? “I am very honored to get this. I could not have done this without my bears (class). Every day, when I see them smile, it makes my whole day.”
When Michelle Barreiro received her Golden Apple, she couldn’t help but smile at her first grade students, whom she affectionately refers to as her “bears.”

“Bears, we did it,” she said. “I could not have done it without you bears.”
Quinn Rader, 7, said Barreiro deserves the Golden Apple.
“She is a cool and nice teacher,” he said. “When we make a mistake, she doesn’t get mad at us.”
Barreiro said her key to success is to have fun with her students every day.
“When I see them smile, it makes my whole day,” she said. “They are going to learn no matter what, but they smile when they walk out of the classroom. It makes my whole day.”
