Hundreds stolen from 'poor box' at Catholic church in South Fort Myers

Hundreds of dollars were reported stolen from a “poor box” Thursday at a Catholic church in South Fort Myers.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report:

The business administrator for Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church at 13060 Palomino Lane, said the box, used to collect money for the less fortunate, was intact after the 8 a.m. Thursday mass. When she went to empty it at 2:30 p.m., the cash was missing.

The exact amount of cash stolen was not disclosed, but it is between $300 and $5,000.
