It was not quite 8 a.m., Sunday, and over 80 people were lined up outside the doors of the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island (JCMI).
They waited with excitement and eager anticipation. The Sunday event was JCMI’s Nearly New Sale that included Bernie’s Jewish Deli and Bubba’s Bakery. JCMI had hosted a nearly new sale in the past but this was the first time with food.
“The sale exceeded our expectations. It is a major success,” said Harvey Brennen, JCMI spokesman.
“We are very appreciative of the support we received from the community.”
People enjoyed the social interaction of the event: Browsing for bargains; enjoying some matzah ball soup or noshing on Mandelbrodt (a Jewish biscotti); and catching up with friends.
Merchandise ranged from books to bedding, electronics to furniture and everything in between.
“It was difficult to say what was the best seller,” said Sandra Yuil, first vice president of JCMI’s board of directors.
The remaining merchandise was donated to St. Matthews House.
