Still Clemson bound: South Fort Myers Sammy Watkins intends to sign with Tigers

Sammy Watkins Highlights

The Army All-American in action

Clemson remains the college choice for Sammy Watkins.

The South Fort Myers senior wide receiver said Thursday in a phone interview that he will sign with the Tigers. Watkins verbally committed to Clemson on Nov. 22.

Since then, Clemson has made some personnel changes. Two days after losing to South Florida in the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 31, the Tigers announced that two assistant coaches -- including offensive coordinator Billy Napier -- would not return next season.

When he was asked Thursday if he will sign with Clemson on Feb. 2 -- National Signing Day -- Watkins replied, "Yes, I will."

Watkins is in San Antonio, Texas preparing for Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He will play for the East squad. NBC will televise the game live at 1 p.m.
