Family and friends of Ryan Duffy, the former Barron Collier High School baseball standout who is recovering from swimming accident, hope to raise $2,000 in sponsorship to run in the Naples Daily News Half Marathon on Jan. 16.

Lee Watkins from Atlanta and Sheila Leith of Naples, hope to raise the money to assist with immediate equipment needs for Duffy as he is still dependent on a ventilator.

Duffy sustained a C2-C5 spinal cord injury after diving into shallow water while vacationing in the Florida Keys. After spending six weeks in intensive care at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and two months of rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Duffy has returned home with mounting medical bills.

The costs associated with Duffy's recovery are not entirely covered by insurance, and through community fundraisers and donations, the family has been able to cover most of the necessary costs.

To donate to "Running for Ryan" contact Sheila or Lee for sponsorship information at SheilaLeith@wcicommunities.com or LWatkins@southernco.com.
