Part of Naples Pier closed due to death investigation

25 12th Avenue South, Naples, FL

— The Naples Police Department is investigating the death of a 52-year-old man who was discovered at the end of the Naples Pier on Wednesday morning.

Naples Police Department and Naples Fire and Rescue Department officials responded to the 7:50 a.m. call of an unresponsive man at the end of the Pier. Upon arrival, officers found the 52-year-old white man sitting under the covered area at the western end of the Pier. Fire Rescue officials determined the man was deceased.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Police and Fire officials blocked off the western half of the pier and put up a blue tarp as they investigated the death. As tourists and locals looked on, police wheeled the gurney containing the body off the pier.

As a light rain began to fall, a crew of people armed with a hose, broom, bleach and cleaners walked towards the end of the pier to clean up following the investigation.

Naples Police have identified the man, but his name is not being released pending notification of next of kin. Several people on the Pier on Wednesday morning said the man was not a regular at the Pier.
