The Greater Marco Family YMCA sponsored a shindig you didn’t want to miss on Tuesday.
Saddle Up For Strong Kids was the theme of the Y’s 2011 annual dinner, held at the Hideaway Beach Club’s Grand Ballroom. Y members, friends and families dressed in their Western wear to get down and enjoy a festive night of great grub, live music, dancin’ and steer roping. A special treat was the kick-stompin’ demonstration of line dancin’ by the children of the Y’s afterschool program.
Tiffany Homuth, the Y’s vice president of financial development, mentioned the last year’s success. “2010 was such a great year, we’re increasing our goal for 2011 to $200,000,” she said of the Y’s fundraising plans.
So far this year, the Y has raised more than $26,000 benefitting the Y’s continued support of the community. This includes program services and initiatives focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibilities for the families of Marco Island.
Allen “Skip” Merriam, president of the Marco Y, believes that the staff is the “best trained team in the state of Florida.”
