— A 28-year-old East Naples man was arrested Wednesday after Collier County Sheriff's deputies say he barged into another man’s room and threatened him with a knife.

Jose Luis Perez, 28, of the 2200 block of Duda Road, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

The victim, Joel Santizo, told deputies through a translator that Perez had come into his room, pulled out a knife and threatened to "(mess) him up," according to an arrest report. Santizo said he was very afraid that Perez would stab him, and did not move.

After a few minutes of Perez holding the knife at Santizo, reports say Perez left the area.

Santizo called his boss, who contacted law enforcement.

When deputies arrived on scene they found Perez and 34-year-old Bernardo Ziga hiding by a canal, lying on their stomachs. They also found a 12-inch butcher knife on the ground.

Ziga, also of the 2200 block of Duda Road, was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon after deputies say they found a knife in his pocket.
