Eagles football gets early start

The Marco Eagles football program is off to an early start, with a special committee named to share in making the program a success.

Eddie Webb is the new president for the program, while committee members include Terese Glasser, Scott Cervin, Rick Enders, Jim Prange and Hayden Warren.

With registration beginning next week online, the committee is looking at ways to raise funds for the program that involves more than 150 kids, on football teams and cheerleading.

“With hopes of a great season, the committee is looking to replace old uniforms, add new training equipment and increase our league size,” Webb said.

“Fundraising ideas were shared at the meeting and the OCMI (Optimist Club of Marco Island) Eagle football program is looking for corporate sponsors to help take the football program to the next level. This year several sponsorship levels are available, with different levels of recognition being given, all the way up to the company name being used along with the team name, much like professional sports car racing.”

Registration runs to July 4 for the teams, while potential coaches, volunteers and supporters are being asked to come on board now.

Check the Optimist Club website, http://www.hometeamonline.com/mioptimist/ for further detail. Those interested in becoming a sponsor can contact Webb at 394-0494 for more information.
