David Richard Huffman of Golden Gate was 26 years old, he told Collier County Sheriff’s deputies, when he began “dating” a 13-year-old girl who now attends Golden Gate High School.
A youth relations deputy with the Sheriff’s Office became concerned when he became aware of Huffman, now 28, telling a high school student to stay away from “his girl,” according to reports. Huffman was charged with four counts of felony lewd lascivious battery in a sexual act with a person 12 to 15 years old.
Also, Huffman, of the 4400 block of 20th Avenue SW, went to the victim’s father’s home and told her father that he had been dating his daughter for two years, deputies reported.
The victim told police Huffman was hanging out with her and her family several times a week and then eventually the two began kissing. He touched her over her clothing and would try to touch her bare skin, particularly her breasts, but she would tell him “no,” according to reports.
Then, in December, the two had sexual intercourse for the first time and then again in mid-January, she told deputies.
Huffman seemed obsessed with her then, she told deputies.
She became interested in a boy at school that was her own age and when Huffman found out, he hacked into her Facebook page and told the boy to stay away from her, according to reports.
Huffman said he saw the boy’s phone number on the girl’s cell phone and called him to tell him to stay away, deputies reported.
The victim’s father told deputies that he feared for his daughter’s safety and does not want Huffman around her, according to reports.
Huffman initially denied knowing that the victim was a juvenile. “Then he confessed that he knew but stated that she was constantly lying about her age to him so he thought that she was 18 years old,” deputies said.
Throughout the interview, Huffman attempted to make it appear as if the girl had manipulated him and that he was the victim, deputies said. He asked if he could press charges, they said.
When told he was not to contact the victim, deputies said, Huffman seemed shocked and hurt and replied “seriously, ever again?”
