PHOTOS: Goodland's 27th Annual Mullet Festival

Hundreds of people flocked out to Stan's Idle Hour in Goodland for the 27th Annual Mullet Festival on Sunday.

With plenty of beer, live music and food, attendees came from as far as Chicago to drink, dance and vote on the 27th Buzzard Lope Queen; an honor only bestowed during the festival.

Eight potential Buzzard Lope Queens took the stage as Stan Gober, owner of Stan's Idle Hour, sang along to the lyrics he wrote nearly 27 years ago.

Dancing the Buzzard Lope, contestants flapped their "wings" and shook their "tail feathers" as the crowd clapped along.

After many rounds of dancing in ornate buzzard costumes, the honor of 2011 Buzzard Lope Queen was given to Alane Summers of Indianapolis.

"It feels wonderful," Summers said. "I think my enthusiasm for winning is what set me apart."

A $50 award for best costume was given out after the queen was crowned. Clad in fishnets and a red boa, Nile Duppstadt took home $50 after participating in the contest in honor of his girlfriend, Kim McGregor.
