TAMPA — An injured manatee rescued near Isles of Capri last weekend has died at a Tampa zoo.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Collier County Sheriff's Office teamed up Saturday to get the 9-foot male manatee out of the water and on a truck to the Lowry Park Zoo.
Boaters reported the injured manatee swimming in circles in shallow water.
A zoo veterinarian said the manatee suffered a concussion and possibly had blood on its brain after getting run over by a boat.
A necropsy will be performed on the manatee to better understand the nature of its injuries, zoo spokeswoman Rachel Nelson said.
