Kids’ giving helps Rookery Bay

Kids celebrated at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center on Friday because of the generosity of area elementary schools.

Karen Conley, president and CEO of Charity for change, presented the Friends of Rookery Bay with a check for $128, raised by students at Calusa Park, Lely, Golden Terrace and Lark Park elementary schools.

“The kids donated their own money from allowances, some even from the tooth fairy,” Conley said.

The schools use the fundraising experiences to build character, responsibility and respect. They choose the charities that receive their donations.

“We are honored by those students,” Conley said. “Their enthusiasm, and those of the teachers, is incredible. Their love and compassion shows in their character building, which humbles us.”
