A high school athlete gets a scholarship, does well in college sports and loses sight of the big picture. He leaves school early to try for quick money and a pro career.
But not Jeff Schaus, a Barron Collier High School baseball player who went on to Clemson. He hit the books too and finished a business degree, which he will put to good use now that he has decided to bypass several past and present offers to go pro.
Instead of pursuing a dream against tall odds, he has a solid fallback — that he earned — from sports.
If only every youth sports story ended so happily.
