South Fla US Rep Rivera added to Cantor fundraiser

MIAMI (AP) — Republicans say it was a simple mistake that left embattled U.S. Rep David Rivera off the invite for a major GOP fundraiser featuring House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

The freshman congressman was the only one of 19 Florida GOP congressional representatives not listed as a host for the National Republican Congressional Committee's September dinner in Rivera's home town of Miami. Neither the NRC nor event organizers returned calls by The Associated Press asking about the omission Monday. But following media reports, a new invitation issued Tuesday added Rivera's name to the $10,000 per couple event. NRCC Spokeswoman Joanna Burgos blamed the initial invite on a staff error.

Rivera faces a state investigation into his finances and is struggling to raise money. The event's co-hosts are expected to bring $30,800 each.
