MIAMI (AP) — Police say four children were injured when a masked gunman fired into a crowd during youth football and cheerleading workouts at a northwest Miami-Dade County park.
Miami-Dade police spokesman Roy Rutland says the children, ages 16, 13, 11 and 3, were struck by bullets from high-powered weapons around 6 p.m. Tuesday. He says West Little River Park was packed with young children and teens when the gunman sprayed dozens of bullets into the crowd.
Rutland called it a "miracle" that no one was killed in the shooting.
Officials say the 13- and 11-year-old football players were stable condition at a hospital. The 16-year-old girl and her 3-year-old nephew were treated and released.
Rutland says the children were not intended victims of what was likely a gang-related shooting.
