Editorial: Mosquito control ... We understand difficulties, but we're feeling the 'bite'

Mosquito control officials of Collier and Lee counties report a record season for complaints from the public.

They say uneven rain patterns and light if any breezes have led to sporadic bug outbreaks rather than a pattern that is easy to combat. They say it’s a big job that is far from easy.

Message understood.

But residents also expect service — the service they pay for. Mosquito-control operations around here are so efficient — out of sight, out of mind — they are taken for granted.

Most of the time.

But when the nuisance and public-health indexes go up, like now, service is expected. That is when the pros are expected to step up their game.

Let’s get it done.
