Join artists today and the last Thursday of each month from 4 to 7 p. m. as they create, display and sell work at the Promenade at Bonita Bay. Each Art Walk features hors d’oeuvres, live music and plein air painters.

The Artist Studios at the Promenade comprise more than 40 artists who are in their studios Thursday through Saturday from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m.


The August art walk in Fort Myers will begin from the Arts for ACT Gallery, 2265 First St., in downtown Fort Myers on Aug. 5. The walk is from 6 to 10 p. m., and the opening reception will feature artists Callie Ferraro, Gael Collar and Harley Young.

Ferraro graduated from Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg in 2011 with a major in visual art and a minor in psychology. She has taught visual art at the Alliance for the Arts Summer Camp and is interning in art therapy at Southwest Florida Addiction Services. Her mixed-media work is titled " Soul Maps."

Collar works in acrylic, oil, pen and ink, graphite pencil and collage. She has studied art in New York, Arkansas, Dallas, Oklahoma and Florida.

Young earned a Ph. D. as an environmental engineer and worked as a licensed professional engineer in environmental science. But he also works as an artist and has been in exhibitions around the U. S.

Ave Maria Dance Academy is in the process of forming its own performance team, a dance company called Steppin’ Up. The company is for advanced dancers who have had a minimum of three years ballet experience.

These company dancers will learn technique and choreography for different dance styles which they will use to perform several times a year at local community events.

The three-year-old company’s annual open house is 58 p. m. Aug. 8. At the open house, dancers both new and returning can register for classes, meet instructors and purchase both new and gently used dance wear at the " swap ‘ n’ shop" sale.

Auditions for The Naples Players comedy, " Later Life" will begin at 2 p. m. Aug 13, no appointment needed, at Sugden Community Theatre, 701 Fifth Ave. S., on the Plaza in downtown Naples.

" Later Life," an A. R. Gurney’s comedy of a reunion gone awry, will be directed by Paul Graffy. A cast of four is needed; two men and two women, middle-aged.

Rehearsals will begin Sept. 12, with Toybe Studio performances from Oct. 26 to Nov. 19. Perusal scripts are available for 72 hours, with a $20 deposit, at the Sugden box office, ( 239) 263-7990.


Tickets are on sale for Opera Naples’ fourth annual Eurofest, an Aug. 13 evening of art and cuisine celebrating the culture of selected European nations. This year, the event highlights Italy, France, and Germany. Proceeds will support Opera Naples’ 201112 season and its educational programming.

Vocalists will be sopranos Steffanie Pearce and Anne Leonardi, mezzosoprano Melissa Vitrella, and baritone Joseph Ryan. Tenor Brian Cheney, who will appear as Don Ottavio in Opera Naples’ upcoming production of " Don Giovanni," will appear as well.

Robin Shuford Frank, chorus director for Opera Naples, and William Noll, artistic director for Classic Chamber Concerts, are the pianists.

Also featured will be the artwork of Tampa artist Jane Chapin, who has traveled the United States painting informal depictions of its people’s lives. There is a live auction as well. Food stations will feature dishes of Italy, France and Germany.

The Art League of Bonita Springs has organized an art exploration trip to Santa Fe, N. M., Sept. 25 to Oct. 1.
