Possible drowning reported on Marco Island

What was initially reported as a drowning on Marco Island Thursday was actually a medical emergency, according to the Marco Island Fire Department.

"People though it was a drowning but it was not," said Chief Mike Murphy. "It was a medical emergency."

A possible drowning on a Marco Island beach has sparked a response by Marco fire and police and Collier County EMS personnel.

The possible drowning involves a man, approximately 50-years-old, on the south-end of the island, according to Dan Bowman, deputy chief of Collier EMS.

Bowman said he did not have information on the status of attempts to revive the man.

Police and fire officials are on-scene investigating.
