A 25-year-old registered sex offender thought he was meeting a 14-year-old girl for sex, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. Instead, he was chatting with an undercover detective who arranged a meeting that landed the man in jail.
Todd Fechter II, 2031 17th St. S.W. Golden Gate, was charged with traveling to meet a minor for sex, online solicitation for sex and failing to register email account/social networking profile(s).
Deputies say Fechter initiated an online chat with a person he believed was a 14-year-old girl on Thursday evening. When the chat resumed at about 9 a.m. Friday the conversation turned sexual in nature, with Fechter saying he wanted to meet the girl so the two could perform oral sex on each other.
Fechter has an active Facebook account and several of his friends listed on the page appear to be high-school aged girls. Friday around noon, Fletcher posted “yay already bored with nothing to do” on Facebook.
Deputies arrested him late Friday afternoon when he arrived at the agreed upon location.
Fechter was arrested in 2003 on a charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim younger than 12. He turned 18 six weeks before the date of that offense. Fechter was sentenced to six years in prison. He served just under five years in the Brevard Correctional Institute, being released on Aug. 30, 2009.
