Lee man, woman accused with child neglect after toddler found home alone

A South Fort Myers man and woman who gave Lee deputies differing accounts as to why a 2-year-old was left home alone were subsequently arrested Tuesday evening.

Katrina Ann Boudreau, 28, and John Clayton Douglas, 29, both of the 1700 block of Brantley Road, Fort Myers, were each arrested on charges of felony child neglect and a misdemeanor of giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report:

Just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, two Sheriff’s Office victim advocates went to a house to serve some protective order paperwork. While there, the advocates found the child home alone. About 20 minutes later Boudreau returned to the house and said the child was to be watched by her roommate “Marley.”

Deputies went to the residence and soon after Douglas arrived, saying a babysitter named Lauren had been called to babysit.

The couple was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where they gave statements and were arrested.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office child abuse investigation unit are investigating.
