— A 45-year-old Lehigh Acres woman was jailed Thursday, accused of hitting her 84-year-old grandmother. She was arrested after concerned neighbors called deputies.

Anita Ann Perry, of the 300 block of Joel Boulevard, was charged with battery on a person 65 years old or older.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report:

Two residents of a 55-plus complex were concerned for the safety of a neighbor “because of what they perceived to be violent arguments between her and her granddaughter…” The residents said Perry is said to “have a violent temper.”

They also said Perry is deaf, yells at her grandmother and they can hear banging on the walls when the two argue.

Deputies spoke to the victim who said Perry is often angry, and it’s not unusual for her to throw things at her grandmother and the family’s dog.

“I guess I am just in the way,” the grandmother told deputies. She admitted Perry pushes and pulls her when she gets angry.

Perry’s account of the story agreed with her grandmother’s account, but Perry said she was angry at the “nosy neighbors” and pushed her out the door.

When deputies told Perry she was going to be arrested, she and her grandmother changed their stories and said nothing happened. The grandmother said Perry was there to help her and she needed to have her around to take care of her.

After Perry was arrested, the grandmother asked deputies: “What? Again? You just arrested her. What for this time?” Perry has no previous arrests dating to 1998 in Lee County.

The grandmother had difficulties remembering deputies had just given her some paperwork, became confused and unable to make sense of the situation. The grandmother began cursing and yelling at neighbors.

Deputies noted the two appear to have a relationship in which anger and violence is accepted. Deputies notified Florida Department of Children and Family Services.
