— A 20-year-old East Naples man was killed and another person was injured Thursday morning in a shooting incident in the Naples Manor neighborhood of East Naples.

Elmer Serrano-Lopez died at the scene of the shooting in Naples Manor, not far from where he lived at 5427 Bryant Ave., the Collier County Sheriff's Office reports.

After responding to a report of a shooting in the Holland Street area of Naples Manor at 2:13 a.m. Thursday, deputies heard additional shots being fired in the area of Fleming Street, where the actual shooting occurred. Deputies found Serrano-Lopez in the street at the Fleming Street location.

Shortly thereafter, another man now hospitalized walked into the 7-Eleven store at Rattlesnake Hammock Road and U.S. 41 East requesting assistance. The injured man was transported to an area hospital.

The Collier Sheriff's Office is refusing to release the name of the victim, according to Chief Jim Williams. According to Florida's public record law, the name of the victim of a crime is not exempt from release. Williams said the release of the name would hurt the Sheriff's Office's investigation.

Neighbor John Fulkroad said he heard five shots fired quickly about 3:30 a.m. today while making a cup of coffee at his home, located near the corner of Carolina Avenue and Holland Street. Then, a moment later, Fulkroad said he heard three or four shots further down Holland Street. He looked out the window, but did not see anything.

“This neighborhood is usually pretty quiet,” said Fulkroad, who has lived in Naples Manor since 1997. “It’s a good neighborhood.”

Investigators using a metal detector near the corner of Holland Street and Georgia Avenue were seen putting evidence in a bag.

Authorities were also called to the 7-Eleven at the intersection of Rattlesnake Hammock Road and U.S. 41 East, just a few miles north of the shooting scene. An employee at the store reported that a shooting victim came in requesting assistance.

No arrests have been made in the shooting incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 252-9300, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.
