The 38th annual Eagle Open saw three teams fly to the top in a fantastic finish on Saturday at the Island Country Club.
The winning team shot a combined score of 57, while second and third-place finishers carded 58s.
Members from the Links of Naples, Roger Coleman, Matt Lawrence, Dave Putinski and Vern Meuller, eked out the title.
Jim Lane, Rob Pentico, Tee McCabe and Billy Lyle tied the team of Richard and Jennifer Shanahan, John Higgins and Kevin Morton.
The tie was broken by taking the hardest holes on the course and seeing which teams scored the best on those holes, with the Lane team getting second.
The women’s best team was Litha Berger, Nancy Meyers, Joanne Rose and Henderson, carding a 73.
Coleman double dipped, winning the 50-50 raffle of $575 and contributing $200 back to the Marco Island Rotary clubs. Overall, the event raised more than $10,000. The Noontime Rotary gives its share to the Marco Island Charter Middle School, while the Sunshine Rotary gives to the Charter School and other local charities.
“It was a great event,” said co-chairman Dick Shanahan. To have 110 golfers, 48 hole sponsors and 30 outstanding door prizes in the month of June is more that we could have expected.”
Special awards went to Mike Kelly and Jacquie Koon for longest drives and Daryl Jacobs and ML Meade for closest to the pin.
Eagle Open Committee members included Dick Shanahan and Debra Sanders, co-chairs, and George Abounader, Chuck Canfield, Litha Berger, Angela Palmer, Greg Spain, Wayne Purvis, Bette McGilvray, Mary Quinton and Dottie Weiner.
