Lee school officials don't find humor in boy's T-shirt message

Officials at East Lee County High School in Lehigh Acres became concerned Wednesday after a student wore a T-shirt to class and had doodled about having to do more research on the school.

The student, who was not identified in the reports, wore a T-shirt that read: “A friend will help you move, but a real friend will help you move a body,” according to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office information report.

The boy said: “I just find it to be funny and I like the humor in the message.”

School officials did not find it funny.

They searched the boy’s belongings and found a writing in his binder: “What to write about. Doodles, I’ve been doodling a lot lately. I enjoy it a lot more than I used to. Maybe it’s because I have more boring teachers. I could create something really amazing with them. I just need more research on the school, cafeteria, homeroom, math, main stairwell and front of school.”

The boy told a deputy “I was just free writing.”

He also said he had no plans on hurting himself or anyone else.

“At this time, there is no immediate (threat) to anyone and (the boy) returned to class,” a deputy wrote.
