Crash into Alligator Alley canal kills Fort Myers woman, 3 children

— A one-vehicle crash into a canal along Interstate 75's Alligator Alley left three children and a Fort Myers woman dead Friday night.

Nataly Telfort, 33, was traveling westbound on the Alligator Alley portion of I-75 in a 1998 Infititi sport utility vehicle with the three children when she lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The SUV overturned in a water-filled canal around mile marker 94, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Telfort and a male child were transported to Physicians Regional Hospital, but all of the passengers died.

The FHP has withheld the names of the children as next of kin are being notified. However, the News-Press reported on Sunday the names of the three children as James Blanchard, 10; Whitney Thomas, 4; and Carla Thomas, 1.

According to the report, the driver and passengers were wearing seatbelts.

The FHP requests that any witness of the crash contact 239-278-7100 or 239-354-2377 ext. 109.
