Six Marco Island Auxiliary Police officers received their badges in a pinning ceremony on Friday at the Marco Island Police Department.
Those pinned included Don Schwartz, Alan Brown, Josh Hogue, Shawn Hurtley, Chuck Ludwigsen and Bill Miller.
Capt. David Baer said the pinning ceremony culminated a nine-month arduous journey and celebrated the successful completion of the Auxiliary Police Academy.
Chief Thom Car congratulated the new officers, citing their balancing the demanding requirements of a 400-plus-hour course with their primary career and family.
Their training included firearms, first aid, self-defense, laws of arrest, and search and seizure.
Baer cited the training as “a logical extension of our community policing initiatives and demonstrates a commitment toward community interaction and participation.” The new officers join three other reserve officers, an auxiliary police officer and 11 civilian volunteers.
