The Eagles boys and girls track teams started their season with a five-team meet at First Baptist Academy.
With more than 60 runners and many new faces to track, the main purpose of this meet was to get a feel for the track format, as well as a track.
The Eagles do not have a track so practice is much different than a meet. The teams both did well, with the girls winning with 144 points (89 points was second) and the boys finishing second with 75 points (98 points was first).
Both teams had some awesome performances in this early meet. Rosie Poling and Jen Carter finished 1-2 in the mile, with both breaking Carter’s school record of 6:03. They ran 5:52 and 5:59!
Christy Thorstenson ran a school record 1:05 in the 400 meters with Lauren Hanscom right behind in third. Thorstenson was on the winning 4x100 relay, along with Lexie Lundquist, Ashley Schneller, and Samantha Jennings.
The winning 4x400 team was made up of Hanscom, Thorstenson, Poling and Taylor Fetzer. Samantha Jennings won the 100 meter sprint. Other winners included Alyssa Stolinas in the shot, Lundquist in the long jump, and Poling in the 800 meter run.
The boys had some super performances as well. Gage Wheeler had a great first meet, winning the 400 meter race and anchoring the second-place 4x400 relay team. Tanner Fulcher won the mile in 5:39, followed closely by Peter Servente in 5:45. Trevor Dye had a nice first meet in placing fourth in the shot and 100 meter run. Josh Wagner ran a strong first meet, running in the mile, 4x100 relay, 100 meter hurdles and 800 meters.
Dalton Herrity had a personal best in the mile and Jordan Barrett ran a strong 400 meter race, finishing third. The boys will have a strong season when all the boys are available for the meets.
Both teams run on Wednesday at Oak Ridge Middle School, with at start time of 4:15 p.m.
