NAPLES — Jorge Saavedra, the Golden Gate Estates teenager charged in the fatal stabbing of a fellow Palmetto Ridge High School student, was arraigned in Collier County on Monday in an unrelated case.
Saavedra, 15, is charged with resisting arrest after a December 2010 incident in which he refused to go to school, prompting his mother to call a Collier County deputy to escort him. The charge, initially diverted from prosecution, was filed after Saavedra's arrest for the stabbing death of Dylan Nuno, 16.
Saavedra, who remains on home release in Miami, was represented at the hearing by his attorney.
According to a booking report, Saavedra repeatedly walked away from the deputy, even after being dropped off in front of the school. At one point he shouldered the deputy aside, prompting a charge of battery of an officer, a count later dropped.
Saavedra is charged with manslaughter, as a juvenile, in the case of Nuno's death. Detectives say Saavedra repeatedly stabbed Nuno after being punched several times.
A sounding in both cases is scheduled for April 26.
