Gov. Scott names lawyer to head Fla. business agency

Gov. Rick Scott has named a former federal prosecutor as secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Scott on Wednesday announced the appointment of Ken Lawson, who most recently had been vice president for compliance with nFinanSe Inc., a financial services company in Tampa.

Lawson previously had been an assistant U.S. attorney and then held administrative positions in the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Transportation Security Administration.

In his new job Lawson will oversee licensing and regulation of a wide range of commercial activities including alcoholic beverage sales, hotels and restaurants, boxing, real estate, veterinary medicine, construction, electrical contracting, engineering and barbering.
