If you’re a flower child, get ready.
There’s some serious petal power coming to Southwest Florida, and whether you’re a
natural-born blossom buff or just looking to browse for a little something to spruce up your backyard,
these three shows are sure to have you buzzing like a bee.
Naples Flower Show
Now in its 58th year, this longtime flower show favorite is organized by the Naples Garden Club and is now held on the grounds of the recently expanded Naples Botanical Garden. It’s considered one of the largest flower shows in Florida. This year’s theme is the oh-so-apropos “Garden Party,” and will give a nod to several of the venue’s newly opened garden exhibits.
More than 60 floral designs, including elevated creations and petite five-inch arrangements, will be showcased. A new exhibit titled “Artistic Crafts” will also be on display; here, you’ll find lovelies such as gift boxes, hats and cakes that include various types of plant material.
There’s an expanded garden market with 30 vendors. Florists, plant growers, garden and home décor, works of art and plant-inspired accessories will be available for purchase. Finally, if educational offerings appeal to you, there will be several exhibits on display and horticultural demonstrations throughout the weekend.

Lee County Garden Council flower show
For Neapolitans, this one’s further afield. But the Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council bi-annual Flower Show is only held once every two years, so if you miss it, you’ll have to wait longer for it to come around again. And, as garden council president Mitzi Marckesano points out, when you only do a show once every two years, the resulting show “is our big time to shine.”
“We have people displaying floral designs as well as horticulturals at the world show,” she said. “These are real special people.”
Themed as “Do you believe in magic,” the show was inspired when a garden council member created an arrangement in a top hat. Such creative talents are many in the council, which has an estimated 1,500 members in 22 garden clubs and eight specialty plant societies.

Naples Orchid Society Show & Sale
Organized by the Naples Orchid Society and Rotary Club of Naples, this show is celebrating its 38th year and recently found a new venue, the Moorings Presbyterian Church. The church provides a perfect place to showcase the glory of the flowers, explained Kathleen Edwards, the event’s publicity chairman.
“The first thing that’s going to hit you is a tremendous fragrance, and everything is so colorful and so beautiful,” she said. “You just get transformed. It’s like being in a park.”
This year’s show is themed “Orchid Fantasy.” But expect something akin to “orchid explosion,” as hundreds of flowers will be displayed on tables, in hanging baskets and in cut-flower arrangements. Winners of the show’s judged categories will be announced when the show opens at 3 p.m. Friday.
Find a fragrant friend you can’t live without? No worries. Four orchid vendors will be on-site to satisfy your botanical cravings. You can also shop orchid-growing supplies.
