MARCO ISLAND — Upset over losing his bar stool at a Marco Island bar, a 56-year-old Ohio man was charged with resisting an officer with violence, Marco Island police said.
Stephen M. Deasey of Dublin, Ohio, was at Rookies Bar and Grill on South Collier Boulevard after 1 a.m. Saturday when he got up and went outside to have a cigarette, according to reports. When he returned, a woman was sitting on his bar stool and would not leave, according to reports.
The woman told police that she was saving the stool for her boyfriend who was in the bathroom.
Deasey became angry and belligerent and began yelling at other patrons, according to reports.
The bartender asked him to leave but he refused, according to reports.
Officers also asked him to leave, but he declined. Then when the officers attempted to arrest him, he became violent and started to thrash and break the officers’ grasp on him, according to reports.
Deasey kept rolling on top of the officers, eventually causing one officer to have severe pain in his left ankle, police said. Officers were eventually able to get Deasey into handcuffs, but not until he received a cut to his forehead. He was taken to a Physicians Regional Hospital and treated for minor injuries, as was the officer.
Deasey was charged with trespass and resisting an officer with violence.
