PLANT CITY, Fla. (AP) — A Tampa area woman who fell into a muddy sinkhole was able to use her cellphone to call for help.
Plant City police say 47-year-old Carla Chapman was walking in her backyard Monday when she fell after the ground caved in underneath her feet. The hole was about 24 inches wide. Chapman was able to call for help on her cellphone.
An officer held onto her wrists to stop her from slipping further until fire rescue and other police officers arrived to help pull her up.
Chapman was taken to South Florida Baptist Hospital for treatment. She is listed in stable condition.
Plant City is about 20 miles west of Tampa.
