A 71-year-old woman died today in a Naples Park house fire.
Barbara Bonny, who turned 71 in April, died in the fire at 804 98th Ave..
She was found in the bathroom of home, which was considered a total loss due to the fire, according to North Naples Deputy Chief Sal D'Angelo.
North Naples Fire crews were dispatched at 2:46 p.m., arrived at 2:52 p.m. and had the fire under control in 23 minutes, D'Angelo said.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation, and the State Fire Marshall's Office is responding to investigate the cause of the fire. The next of kin has been notified, D'Angelo said.
Neighbor Bob Coates, 62, who lives three blocks away and is a former volunteer firefighter, said he saw the smoke column rising from the home and walked over to discover the first fire engine had arrived on scene.
"The flames were coming out the whole place," Coates said, adding that he was impressed with the response.
North Naples firefighters are responding to a “well-involved” structure fire in Naples Park.
Firefighters are battling the flames on scene, said Jaime Cunningham, assistant fire chief of the North Naples Fire Control and Rescue District.
Cunningham said firefighters were searching the building believing someone may be inside.
