  • A 43-year-old North Naples woman who went shoplifting while her two young children sat in her running car for a half-hour was sentenced Wednesday to probation.

Collier Circuit Judge Fred Hardt also ordered Kimberly Ann Errigo, of 92nd Avenue North, to take a parenting class after she pleaded no contest to child neglect.

The sentence was part of a plea deal negotiated by Naples defense attorney Jerry Berry of Naples and Assistant State Attorney Steve Maresca. The deal dropped a petty theft charge.

Collier Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Pine Ridge Road supermarket at 7:20 p.m. Oct. 8 after a security officer spotted Errigo slipping sushi and shrimp into her purse, then leaving without paying. A surveillance video showed her shopping for a half-hour and when confronted, the security officer also found a bottle of wine in her purse. The total theft was $63.81.

At the time, one child was strapped into the back seat and another was able to freely roam inside the running vehicle with full access to its controls.

Records show Errigo, a medical accounts manager who was denied a CPA license, has a prior DUI conviction.

Probation! You have got to be kidding, that's just wrong. Leaving young children in a running car unattended is a crime in itself, let alone shoplifting in the meantime. Unreal!
