Marco Island’s Grant Gordon will be in the championship competition in Punt, Pass & Kick before the Miami Dolphins-Oakland Raiders game on Dec. 4.
He qualified by winning the local and regional competition for 8-and-9-year-olds
More than 45 participants took part in the nationwide NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition, first hosted by the City of Marco Island Parks and Recreation Department in September. This was the City’s seventh year hosting the competition.
The competition is broken into five age divisions, with boys and girls competing separately. Each participant punts, kicks and throws a football into an open field. Points are given for distance and accuracy for each portion of the competition and then combined to reach an overall score. The program is free to anyone who participates.
Winners of the Marco Island competition were:
Girls 10-11-years, Abigail Meredith.
Boys 6-7, Nicholas Vergo; Boys 8-9, Grant; Boys 10-11, Jason Lang; Boys 12-13, Jay Vanderjagt; Boys 14-15 , Crandell Maines.
Assisting in the competition were the Marco Island Senior Softball League as the “Field Crew,” along with coaches from the Marco Island Charter School, Mike Vanderjagt and Jim Young.
