ESTERO — Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission called off the search for a black bear found wandering near the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University.
"[There is a] healthy bear population and we continue to build homes in woods, so we are going to see bears," said FWC Officer Stewart Spoede.
Monday night, a 100-pound black bear was spotted near FGCU's campus off of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway.
"That's pretty frightening," said FGCU senior Ryan Hickey, who says it is scary because he walks late at night on campus from class.
