Shred party

Start scouring your desks and files for documents that need disposal in a safe manner.

Due to popular demand after the last Iberia Bank, Marco Island document shred party in June, a second shred event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Bring your documents and join the party with fun stuff going on to keep participants entertained.

Rick Machaud, District Operations Manager with Shred-It Company, said out of the 30 shred events held annually from Fort Myers to Miami, Marco Island had the biggest turnout and produced the most shred by a wide margin.

Call or email Keith Dameron, VP-Manager for questions about which documents to keep and for how long and what to shred at 239-393-2400, 239-734-1021 (cell), or email Keith.Dameron@iberiabank.com. Iberia Bank is at 605 Bald Eagle Drive, Marco Island.

Androids phones and tablets now have a remote

An Android compatible Beacon universal remote control system for home entertainment centers has been developed by Griffin Technology Inc. and Dijit Media, a San Francisco-based software company.

The wireless AV controller pairs with Android tablets and Smartphones running Android OS 2.3.3 or greater. It works via Bluetooth and works with Dijit's free universal remote app (application). Complete control of the entire home entertainment system (televisions, DVRs, stereos and other entertainment devices) is possible directly from the Android interface.

Beacon works by converting Bluetooth signals from Smartphones and tablets into infrared signals required to control consumer electronics devices with the flexibility of a touch screen interface.

With the Dijit app, you can search and browse shows by time, date, access specific episode details, upcoming schedules, cast and crew information — all with just a tap using the guide. Beacon for Android sells for $69.99 at BestBuy.com and at griffintechnology.com/beacon-android. Watch a video of Beacon in action at griffintechnology.com/beacon.
