Jury selection has started in one of Collier County's largest child pornography cases.

Forty potential jurors were brought into Collier Circuit Judge Fred Hardt's courtroom late Monday morning. The jurors will hear the case against 26-year-old East Naples resident Daniel Enrique Guevara Vilca, who is charged with 454 counts of possessing child pornography.

Prosecutors dropped 46 counts against Guevara Vilca on Monday morning after a medical expert couldn't confirm 46 images or videos featured children.

The jurors will see all the photographs and watch edited parts of videos on a computer seized from Guevara Vilca's home in 2010. Video scenes depicting sex acts won't be shown to jurors.

Hardt told the potential jurors that the trial is expected to last at least four days, one more than previously expected.

At the outset of jury selection, Hardt asked if any potential jurors would be unable to render an impartial verdict because of the sexually explicit nature of the photos and videos. Seven potential jurors said they couldn't, explaining their reasons in private conferences with Hardt and lawyers from both sides.

Guevara Vilca faces life in prison if convicted on all 454 counts.
