ShowcasePlus for Oct. 14-16, 2011.

Well, Halloween is still a few weeks away but places all around town are gearing up to scare you silly.

1. First event is Fright Night of Fort Myers. (frightfactorynaples.com) This is going on every weekend until Halloween and ticket prices range from $13 to $33.

This year, unlike previous years, there will be two separate attractions: Fear Zone 3-D and House of Horrors. To attend both, it costs $23.

This event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of San Carlos Park and Estero. All the proceeds are used to build scholorships for local students.

Taking place on 20,000 acres at the Gulf Coast Town Center, this event is open to all ages. But, those under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Be sure to check out naplesnews.com/showcase for a story about the event where we spoke to one of the 100 volunteers about the history and what drew him to being a participant.

This Free event is part Tribute to Fort Myers “Zombie History” and part Interactive Improvisational Theater. ZOMBICON has been called a “Bona Fide Phenomenon”, by The City of Fort Myers! It began humbly in 2007 when about 500 artists, performers and zombie lovers, gathered on The Patio de Leon in Downtown Fort Myers for a celebration of art and zombie culture. Drawing inspiration from George Romero’s DAY OF THE DEAD, which was filmed in the area, participants dressed as their own version of “The Living Dead” and limped through the historic streets of The River District. You don’t just come to the event… you ARE the event.

Each year local and International artists exhibit their work in the “Dark Art Show“, a gallery exhibition which has featured pieces by Clive Barker, H.R. Giger and Marilyn Manson. Our Goon Squad guides the horde past local businesses and restaurants in the annual Zombie Walk, which retraces the steps of the classic movie!

The Zombie virus is spreading at an alarming rate! In just 4 years, ZOMBICON has grown to over 10,000 attendants!

This year we will attempt to break the World Record for “Largest Zombie Gathering”

ZOMBICON was founded in 2007, by a handful of local artists, now incorporated as Pushing Daizies, Inc. a non-profit organization. Pushing Daizies, Inc. supports all forms of art, art education and culture.
