NAPLES — After three separate lightning delays, the Palmetto Ridge at Lely game on Friday night was postponed until 10 a.m. Saturday.
The game was officially called with 1 minute, 18 seconds remaining before halftime. The Bears (3-4), on the strength of a Ron Johnson 5-yard touchdown, led the Trojans 7-3 at the point of stoppage.
The Trojans (1-6) used a 13-play, 74-yard opening drive, which ate up nearly seven minutes, to get on the board first. Sergio Sanchez booted a 19-yard field goal to give Lely an initial 3-0 lead.
The game's first stoppage came immediately after Johnson's score with 2:54 left in the first quarter.
The game, which resumed play at 9:23 p.m., was played in a blinding rainstorm until another lighting warning sounded, and the decision was made to postpone the game until Saturday.
