Charter school wins historic football game

Marco Island Charter Middle School’s football team crushed Evangelical Christian Academy, 53-22 in its inaugural football game on Thursday.
Special teams were the Eagles only problem as it gave up all three touchdowns, two on kickoff returns.
The Eagles pulled away from a 26-14 halftime score, winning easily behind running back Patrick Michel. He racked up 326 yards on just nine carries, scoring five touchdowns.His longest score was 86 yards.
Overall the Eagles totaled 475 offensive yards , 453 rushing.
“The kids played hard and when they got their chance to perform, for the most part, they did,” coach Mike Vanderjagt said. “We definitely have something we can build on. Marco Island should be proud of these kids.”
The Eagles travel to Southwest Florida Christian Academy for a 6 p.m. game on Thursday.
