Local golf column: Five area golf resorts listed in top 20 in state by Conde Nast Traveler

Southwest Florida has three of the top four golf resorts in the state, according to Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort was ranked No. 1, and was sixth as far as golf course ratings. Tiburon Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort was No. 3, behind The Breakers in Palm Beach. The golf was rated fourth overall.

The Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort is fourth overall. Its golf did not rate in the top 10. The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point was 16th, and South Seas Island Resort on Captiva was 18th.

Avow Hospice Pro-Am: The 21st annual Royal Palm/Avow Hospice Pro-Am will be played at Royal Palm Country Club on Friday. Over $800,000 has been donated since the event began in 1992.

Many head professionals from clubs across Southwest Florida participate and bring their own amateur teams. On Saturday, a celebration dinner will be held to honor donors and raise additional money through a silent auction.

St. Peter's tournament: St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church will have its second annual tournament on Thursday, April 12 at the Mustang Course at Lely Resort. Registration is at 10:30 a.m., with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch, and a 4:30 p.m. awards banquet and raffle.

Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Classic: The sixth annual tournament is Friday, April 13 at Quail West. There is a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start, with registration starting at 11:30 a.m.

Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, which provides over 1,500 medical and dental screenings annually to children in Southwest Florida.
