Safe containing $600 stolen from Bonita school, deputies say

A Bonita Springs school reported that a safe containing cash was stolen from an administrators office earlier this week.

Lee County sheriff's deputies say they met on Wednesday with Arlene Mendez, a school administrator for Living Waters Academy, 27911 Vermont Street. Mendez told deputies she left the school at 6 p.m. Monday with everything secured, including her office.

Mendez returned to the school just before 9 a.m. Wednesday and noticed the black metal safe, which contained $600 cash, was missing from her office, according to reports. Mendez told deputies few people have access to the alarm code or her office, which is usually locked.

Deputies say there are no signs of forced entry, no other items seem to be missing, and the office does not appear rummaged through. The investigation is ongoing.
